What is this game about?
Sorti Madrigalistiche is a simple, yet elegant, card game designed to compose a four voice madrigal given a poem. The game can be played solo or collaboratively and requires the design of a small corpus of musical schemata, each of them assigned to a Major Arcana card of a tarot deck.
The game provides a set of constraints for the composer(s) to write a madrigal embracing the aleatoric transformations of the musical schemata.
An example of such a compositional game is the madrigal O Phebo, o Sole, universal Natura, based on a poem by alchemist Francesco Maria Santinelli.
This musical game is part of the artistic research project A Whirlpool of Imaginary Sounds led by Nicholas Cornia (nicholas.cornia[at]orpheusinstituut.be).
