Player's Turn

  1. Set up the starting position for mode and hexachord.
  2. Take the first verse of your selected poem.
  3. Draw a Major Arcana card from the deck. Its value designate the musical schema that will be used for the composition of the first verse.
  4. Draw a Minor Arcana from the deck and adjust mode and hexachord according to the Minor Arcana Rules.
  5. Compose a polyphonic phrase according to the generated musical schema, mode, hexachord, affect and prosody of the poetic verse.
  6. Iterate the process for each verse, drawing each time a new Major and Minor arcana cards.

Guidelines and Advice

  • You can adjust voice leading by switching fragments of lines between different voices of the schema.
  • Feel free to add extra measures and chords to the schema to best suit the prosody of the poem.
  • Transition between verses can have no intersection, or one or more voices can anticipate a new schema before the closing cadence of the verse.
  • Be creative in your counterpoint, but try to stick to the constraints of the fate.
